One of the most common Job prerequisite is having a Valid SSS Number, there are actually 2 types of SSS Number. A Permanent One and a Temporary One
A Permanent SSS number is given to members that had submitted their birth certificate or provided a solid proof of identification (Passport, Baptismal Certificate) while a Temporary SSS Number is given to registrants that has not satisfied the documentary requirements or registrants that had registered online through sss.gov website
Applying for an SSS Number Online vs In-Person
Applying for an SSS Number in-person is the practical way to go (in my experience) since if you applied online, you would still need to go to the SSS Branch, queue up and fill up forms however If you have no time to go to an SSS Branch, the online one will do since its valid for remitting contributions for the meantime until you got a chance to finally go to an SSS Branch to process your change of membership. . It is important to note that you should only register to SSS once, either in person or online since the sss number that will be given to you is a lifetime record.
My Experience
Day 1: (May 2018) At age 17, I was influenced by my then-classmates to look for a part-time job or “summer job” , they got on first and some got hired. One reason for their delay is the Government Requirements (SSS, HMDF, NBI Clearance, Philhealth). So before i strive to set out my course of sending out resumes, I registered to SSS first. I registered Online (I will detail why registering in-person is better and practical than online) , first go to https://www.sss.gov.ph/sss/appmanager/viewArticle.jsp?page=SSS%20Number%20Online and fill out the basic information ( Name, Birthdate, and Parents) as they will use this to search the database if you have an existing record.

If you’re cleared, you will receive an email that has link to continue your application, it will redirect you to the sss website to fill-out the necessary details that will be shown in your E-1 or “Personal Record” like Mother’s Maiden Name, Birth type (Legitimate or Illegitimate), Father’s Name, Contact Information, etc.. After submitting the required information,Review and Analyze it as it cannot be changed after submission. When you’re confident that it’s all correct and accurate, click the Submit button. Wait for a few moments and it will display your SSS Number as well as a print button for your Number Slip and E-1 Personal Record, this will also be emailed to your email address.
Day 2 (May 2018): I applied for HDMF (Pag-Ibig) and Philhealth at the GSE-Government Service Express at SM Bacoor, just bring 2 Valid IDs more to this at a seperate blog.
Day 3(June 2018): I Started working as an Assistant/Secretary at a local construction business near my house at the basic pay of only Php 300 per day. My Job description was to sort, encode and date documents received as well as to take orders , write receipts etc.. This Job has me working an 8hr/5 days shift for roughly 3 months (June 1, 2018 to August 26, 2018) My SSS Contributions and Philhealth premiums were remitted religiously monthly, (Thank GOD) , I opted and ask them to not deduct and contribute to my HDMF so i can take home more of my paycheck. (Disclaimer: I was only able to check my contributions when i changed my membership status to permanent in 2019)
A Year Later Day 4(October 2019) I just got the feeling that i need to check my SSS Account, So i went to the GSE (Government Service Express) in SM Bacoor to check my membership (I was mostly coerced into checking my SSS Account since my aunt has difficulties in filling her Salary Loan and that got me thinking). I was informed that i was tagged as a Temporary Member therefore it’s only valid for remittance of contribution, and that i had 3 months worth of contribution posted. I was given a E-4 or “Member Data amendment Form” to change my membership status as well as an E-6 “Umid Card Application Form” and was asked to go to the nearest SSS Branch near me (Rosario-EPZA) but since sources told me that it’s very jam packed, I opted to go to the SSS Bacoor Branch at Zapote Jolly Home Apartelle even if it’s further.
Note: Besides the E-4 and E-6, I also recommend that you bring a print-out of your E-1 Personal Record that was previously emailed to you. This is the part why i explain why getting your sss number in the actual branch is better, Its better since you are immediately tagged as a permanent member (provided that you have the proper requirements)

You can get the UMID or “Unified Multi-purpose ID” if you already have one month of posted contribution and a Permanent Membership Status.
1.) Proceed to an SSS Branch with UMID Capture Facilty and fill out a E-6 Form (ask from the kiosk or guard on duty) then get a number for the UMID Enrollment Counter
2.) Submit the E-6 Form and a Valid ID then look at the monitor to ensure that the information being encoded is accurate, after this you will be given a number for the biometrics and ID Capturing booth.
GUIDELINES: To all mens, Please refrain from wearing make-up and piercings To all Women, Please Refraine from wearing big earings and heavy make-up
It’s preferred if you all dress up with a collared shirt, but a plain t-shirt is also fine. Remember to look as natural and as good as possible at the time as this ID is a permanent one.
3.) Proceed to the Capturing and Biometrics booth, Another monitor is there as for you to see the information and provide discrepancy if there is something wrong. Your thumb and index finger will be scanned and you will be asked to sit in a chair in front of blinding day lights. Look at the small webcam and sit there until the capturer say that it’s done.
4.) You will be given a Acknowledgement Receipt, keep this as this will be used to claim the ID at the date told by the clerk. (Since June 2019, UMID IDs are now claimed in the branch where you had your biometics, Application starting from August 2019 are delayed as the CVS Machine in the PSA Office thats used in the making of said ID has been broken but has been set into restoration procedures concurrently. Expect your ID within 3 to 6 months from date of biomatrics.
